Welcome to the 7th Volume of Germany Votes 2025!
Happy New Year! The election campaign has now entered its critical phase, as all parties have released their manifestos. Over the next six weeks, we’ll explore how the election will shape key sectors—transport, health, finance, technology, energy, and industry— dedicating each edition to a specific sector. Today, we begin with transport. We will explore the heated debate over the internal combustion engine ban and examine plans to make future coalition agreements more agile. Enjoy the read, and here's to an exciting year ahead!

In a nutshell:

  • Party positions on transport: We give an overview of parties’ positions on various transport modes.
  • ICE ban: In car-enthusiastic Germany, two camps fight in an emotional debate over the future of drivetrain technology and technology openness.
  •  Election outlook: Current opinion polling indicates a high likelihood of a CDU/CSUled coalition with the SPD, despite minor losses by the CDU/CSU and minor gains by the Greens.
  • Interview with CDU transport expert, Dr. Christoph Ploß: 3 questions on the future of transport in Germany.
  • Epiphany Meeting: FDP reassures itself in the face of polling at 4%.
  • Election questionnaires: Most parties have agreed to only answer questions from 30 associations on their election programs. The move is likely to frustrate smaller organizations.
  • The art of coalition building: In turbulent times, coalition building becomes increasingly complex, requiring new approaches to achieving compromise.
