Insights from our M&A and Activism team
Welcome to the latest installment of Done Deal! In this edition, we’re introducing Brian Salsberg, the new Global head of M&A in the corporate finance segment. Brian brings more than 25 years of transactions experience and was most recently the global leader of the Buy & Integrate group at EY. He further strengthens FTI’s unique end-to-end M&A offering supporting clients from conducting due diligence, winning investor support, securing regulatory clearance and capturing integration success. Prior to joining EY, Mr. Salsberg served as a senior executive and senior vice president of global strategy at a Fortune 500 company, a Partner at McKinsey & Company and a corporate transactions lawyer at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP.
Following this, Alex Le May and Nick Hasell look at what is driving recent M&A changes in the UK and how boards can prepare, in our latest thought leadership piece. We then highlight an article from IR Magazine with insights from Andrea Hearon and Garret Muzikowski on how changing geopolitical tensions and escalating conflict are opening investor doors that used to be firmly shut. Lastly, Shaleen Sukthankar from our Dubai team offers brief reflections in our colleague spotlight.

What We’re Up To
Meet our Team: 30 seconds with Shaleen Sukthankar
What is your focus area at FTI Consulting?
My focus at FTI Consulting is on capital markets and transactions in the Middle East. Over the past few years, the region has been a standout for global IPO and M&A activity, and our team has led many of the region’s high-profile privatization mandates driven by regional governments.
What trends are you seeing in your marketplace?
The Middle East kicked off 2024 on a high note, with everyone feeling pretty optimistic about growth and resilience in the M&A space. Investor confidence is strong, thanks to the region’s growth rate, which the IMF says is set to beat the global average. While deal activity around the world has slowed down due to things like interest rate worries and market volatility, the Middle East is not only holding up but actually thriving in some cases. This really shows how the region stands out in the global M&A scene. Strategic moves by governments focusing on diversifying the economy, green initiatives, tech advancements, and creating value locally have kept the momentum going. We’re seeing more private equity deals happening, and sovereign wealth funds, with their deep pockets, are driving deal volumes and milestone acquisitions, helping boost growth in new sectors and new geographies.
What do you do outside of work that helps you reset and stay sharp for the next professional challenge?
Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, reading books and am a cinematic buff. I think stories and films can teach you a lot about work and real-life situations. I also believe in being physically active to keep your mind refreshed and focused, and I try to make it during weekdays before work to a workout – it always makes me more productive.
