Case Study – Responding to an Operational Incident

A leading global materials company experienced an explosion and fire at one of its facilities located near a residential area and waterway. Local emergency crews responded, and the onsite fire suppression system was also activated. There were no fatalities, but one employee was injured.

Our Role

Our team was onsite to support the incident response within hours to advise on the company’s communications and stakeholder engagement strategy and support all messaging and communications collateral development, media relations activities, and ongoing incident response efforts. This included serving as the company’s public information officer and liaison to the other government agencies responding to the incident that partnered in their remediation activities following the event.

Our Impact

Through transparent and timely communications, our client was able to maintain its relationships with environmental regulators, public officials, local community members, and approximately 40 different public municipalities that were directly impacted by the event.

The client subsequently engaged our team to help develop an enterprise-wide, global crisis management plan and to serve as the company’s go-forward crisis communications advisor for any potential issues it faces in the future.
