COVID-19: Shifting Expectations Survey

With a seminal life or death moment abruptly enveloping the world, every facet of our life will be affected in some way. For Americans, we are only at the beginning stages of rethinking expectations for our own lives and the institutions around us.

FTI wanted a deeper understanding of those expectations and how they are shifting as this pandemic continues to evolve. To do so, we conducted a quantitative survey to better understand and track these attitudes and behaviors. So far, we found Americans are focused on the most pressing concerns: health, family, and making ends meet, the most basic concerns of humanity.

Perhaps this survey’s most telling takeaway: Americans expect the same priorities from the nation’s business and political leaders. In particular, they expect companies and leaders to prioritize their employees’ personal health and financial health, and moreover, they are acutely paying attention to whether or not companies and leaders are doing so. And now, in the first truly global catastrophe of the digital age, Americans are flocking to their digital networks and are sharing positive (and negative news) of what leaders are, or not, doing.

We hope this research, and our accompanying data and insights, will help companies and institutions live up to the new expectations set forth by their fellow citizens.

Full survey results can be found here.
