The European Crop Protection Association (ECPA), an association that represents the interests of dozens of companies with a stake in the European plant protection industry, retained FTI Consulting to undertake an advocacy campaign against a proposed EU regulation that threatened the future of European agriculture. The proposed legislation would have had devastating consequences for the EU agri-food system. This project followed a successful partnership between FTI Consulting and ECPA, and was aimed at building a realistic picture of how farming works and how the majority of food is produced.
Our Work With ECPA
FTI Consulting developed a holistic advocacy campaign to raise awareness of the effects of the proposed pesticide legislation among the public and policymakers. Activities included messaging and evidence building, outreach to the national and specialized media through a media relations program, and the creation of a network of supporters. FTI Consulting cultivated positive public opinion by organizing farm visits, debates, and a creative mailing campaign targeting EU policymakers.
As a result of the campaign, FTI Consulting and the ECPA succeeded in balancing the pesticides debate by ensuring the ECPA’s voice was heard and threats posed by the legislation were more widely understood. The final outcome of the new regulation was positive for the industry, and a large portion of the product portfolio remained protected.
