The Galien Foundation, a global non-profit focused on recognizing excellence in scientific innovation, engaged FTI Consulting to support social media strategy surrounding their annual Prix Galien USA Forum and Awards Gala in New York City. At the Forum, leading C-level executives, research scientists, key opinion leaders, influential media and public policy experts gathered at The Alexandria Center to discuss the latest challenges facing the industry. In the evening, prizes are awarded to the companies and scientists working to drive medical innovation to improve the human condition.
In the months leading up to the event, FTI Consulting worked across social media channels to develop and execute a content strategy and growth plan. Our team launched several key initiatives focused on raising event visibility and driving engagement among key stakeholders including:
Another key component of FTI’s work was fostering an engaging live conversation onsite at the Forum and Awards Gala. FTI developed posters and promotional materials to drive dialogue using the hashtag #PrixGalien and hosted a real-time Twitterfall live stream spotlighting the ongoing conversation throughout the event. In order to further expand reach and engage audiences who were unable to attend in-person, FTI partnered with healthcare trade publication BioCentury to produce live on-site Periscope video interviews with top executives from Shire, Duke Health Policy Center, Pfizer, Memorial Sloan Kettering and Alexandria Real Estate Equities.
On the day of the event, the FTI Consulting team also provided on-site social media support, including live-tweeting, updates and posting throughout the panels and award ceremony.
In just under two months, FTI Consulting was able to increase The Galien Foundation’s Twitter follower count by over 40%, profile views by over 2,000%, and engagement rate by over 880%. On the day of the event, the #PrixGalien hashtag was trending on Twitter (in top 10 highest volume generating conversations) and garnered engagement from key thought leaders in the healthcare space. Journalists and media outlets (including NOVA PBS, CNBC, Forbes and Biopharm Insight), major pharmaceutical companies (including GSK, Pfizer, Novartis and Johnson & Johnson) and key decision makers (including the CEO of the Gates Foundation) all actively engaged in the conversation surrounding the event. The Periscope videos were the first foray into live video for both Biocentury and The Galien Foundation, leading to further interest from other media partners and providing additional exposure for the Foundation’s work.
