Meet Renaud Dutreil, the new Chairman of the Strategic Communications segment of FTI Consulting in France. Mr. Dutreil gives us insights about who he is, why he joined FTI Consulting and the role he is taking on, as well as what he expects in 2016.
Could you say some words about yourself?
My name is Renaud Dutreil, I’m 55, I’m the father of four kids, I’m married, I grew [up] in France. I’ve been studying in Paris, in Ecole Normale Supérieure and Ecole Nationale d’Administration, which is a law school. And then I joined the Conseille d’Etat, which is a supreme court dedicated to public law in France. As I was very passionate about politics, I wanted to be a member of the Parliament. I was elected as an MP in 1994, and re-elected five times. I spent a lot of time in Parliament, and Jacques Chirac as president, asked me to join the cabinet. And during five years, I’ve been able to be part of a great team, and at the time of change, able to implement crucial changes in the economic environment of French companies. That was my mission. Whether it is at the stage of creation or during the difficult phase of transmission, I wanted to improve the environment of French companies.
Then, in 2008, Bernard Arnaud asked me to become the president of LVMH, Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessey, in North America. I was based in New York, LVMH is a great group, very known in North America, and even if it was a time of crisis in 2008, the challenge was really exciting and I loved those years. I wanted to be an entrepreneur—in 2012 I decided to create my own company to invest in startups—disruptive models, which is what really excites me—and now it is my new challenge, joining FTI consulting.
